YOUR ROAD, YOUR CHOICE

An everyday route, with room for a different turn.

A to B, with a little more you.

Main roads. Middle ground. The quieter way.

01 / CHOOSE YOUR WAY

Same destination.
A different kind of drive.

Some days you want familiar main roads. Others, you’d rather take a quieter turn. Compare the road mix and estimated time before you choose.

01

Keep to the main roads.

The least-back-roads option favours the bigger roads, when a reasonable route is available.

Least back roads
02

Find your middle ground.

Compare up to three distinct normal routes. You’ll see fewer if the alternatives would mean an unreasonable detour.

03

Take the quieter turn.

Max backroads looks for more minor roads, while keeping extra time and distance within sensible limits.

Max backroads

A back road won’t always be faster. The choice comes with the time estimate, so you can decide.

WHY CHOOSE BACKLANER?

Because you know
your kind of drive.

The roads you like. The vehicle you drive. The time you need to be there. Backlaner gives those details a place in your journey.

Remember the roads you’d rather avoid.

A tight lane or an awkward road section doesn’t have to become part of your routine. Save a personal avoidance pin and Backlaner checks future routes against it.

Save up to 12 road points. Your preferences don’t become public closure reports.

Give your vehicle a little more thought.

Choose a car, wide car or van profile, enter its dimensions, and set your preferences for width restrictions. Plan with what you’re driving in mind.

Restrictions depend on available map data. Always follow the signs on the road.

Start with when you need to arrive.

Choose Leave at or Arrive by, save the drive, and add it to your calendar. Give your next appointment or day out a departure time to work from.

Departure times use the route estimate when saved; they don’t predict future traffic.

02 / THE LITTLE THINGS

Built around
the way
you drive.

A better journey is about more than the line on the map.

A look before you leave.

Preview your chosen route and its turns before you set off. Get a feel for the journey while you’re still parked.

Just the alerts you want.

Choose spoken guidance, alerts only, or quiet. Keep camera and road alerts separate from turn-by-turn chatter.

A little help from other drivers.

Report traffic, roadworks, closures and hazards. See road reports and mapped cameras along the way.

Your own familiar details.

Keep favourite places close at hand and choose a vehicle icon and colour that feel like you.

03 / FROM HERE TO THERE

A FEW GOOD QUESTIONS

Before you
head out.

Can I try Backlaner now?

Yes. The early web app is available to try in your browser. Backlaner is still being improved, and the iPhone App Store release is in development.

Where does it work?

Backlaner is being developed for UK journeys first. Wider coverage is a future ambition, not a worldwide availability promise.

Will Max backroads always save time?

No. It looks for a greater share of minor roads within a reasonable detour. Traffic can change which route is quickest. Compare the estimates before choosing.

How accurate are the times and speed limits?

Journey times are estimates and depend on routing and traffic data. The app identifies when live traffic cannot be verified. Mapped limits can be missing or out of date; road signs and current conditions take priority.

Can I get it on the App Store?

Not yet. The iPhone release is still in development. You can explore the browser version using the Try Backlaner button.
